For centuries, Johnnie Walker has pushed the industry to become one of the most recognized and popular Scotch Whisky brands in the world. Today, they are pushing the boundaries again with their newest release, Johnnie Walker High Rye Blended Scotch Whisky!  This whisky features a unique mash bill of 60% rye aged in American oak barrels, and includes notable single malts from distilleries such as Cardhu, an important part of the Johnnie Walker Black Label flavor.

With a flavor profile inspired by Johnnie Walker Black Label, High Rye Blended Scotch Whisky is the first high rye profile by the brand. The result is something special, a sweet whisky with a unique rye spiciness that’s revealed through the subtle wisps of warm smoke. Johnnie Walker High Rye Blended Scotch Whisky is bottled at 90 Proof and carries a suggested retail price of around $35.

Color: Light Gold

Nose: Sweet with notes of vanilla, nutmeg, mellon, yeasty bread, and malt.

Palate: Pleasantly creamy with a nice mouth feel. Notes of baking spice, brown sugar, fresh baked apples, brown sugar, caramel, and vanilla cream coat the palate.

Finish: A medium length finish that leaves you longing for another sit. Continued notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and cinnamon linger.

In Conclusion: From the time I first heard about Johnnie Walker High Rye Blended Scotch Whisky I was intrigued. As someone who loves all things rye, hearing the words “High Rye” alongside “Scotch Whisky” was a new concept for me and something I knew I had to try. From the nose all the way to the finish, Johnnie Walker High Rye Blended Scotch Whisky is bold and unique. Although I found it delicious on its own served neat, it stands up beautifully in a Manhattan cocktail. For the price and availability, Johnnie Walker High Rye Blended Scotch Whisky gets two thumbs up from us!
