This Privacy Policy explains what information Whiskey Consensus LLC (“Whiskey Consensus,” “we,” “us”) collects when you visit whiskeyconsensus.com (the “Site”) and how we use it.

The short version: we don’t sell your information, we don’t show ads, and we don’t use tracking cookies. The only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us through our contact form.

1. Information we collect

Information you send us. If you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, and message. Your message is delivered to our email inbox. It is not stored on the Site.

Site analytics. We use Burst Statistics, a privacy-focused tool that runs on our own web server, to count visits and see which pages are read. It works without cookies and does not store your IP address. It records general information such as the page viewed, the website that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate country (looked up from your IP address at the time of your visit, using a database on our own server). It does not identify you personally, and this data is not shared with anyone.

Technical information. Like any website, our hosting and security providers automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, in order to deliver the Site and protect it from abuse. We also keep a short log of broken or redirected links, without IP addresses, so we can fix errors.

2. Cookies

We use one cookie:

  • age_gate: remembers that you confirmed you are of legal drinking age, so we don’t ask again on every page. It expires after 7 days. It is strictly necessary and is not used for tracking.

In some cases, our security provider, Cloudflare, may set a strictly necessary security cookie to help tell people apart from automated traffic.

Members of our team who log in to manage the Site also receive WordPress’s standard login cookies. Readers never need to log in.

We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, social media pixels, or any other tracking technology. If you block cookies, you may be asked to confirm your age on each visit.

3. How we use information

  • To read and reply to messages you send us.
  • To run, maintain, and secure the Site.
  • To understand, in general terms, which content readers find useful.

We do not sell or rent personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles about you.

4. Service providers

We rely on a few providers who process information on our behalf, only to provide their services to us:

  • HostGator: website hosting.
  • Cloudflare: content delivery and website security.
  • Brevo: delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.
  • Google: our email inbox (Gmail), backups of the Site (Google Drive), and Google Search Console, which gives us summary information about how the Site appears in Google search results. Search Console places no tracking code or cookies on the Site.

5. Advertising, affiliate links, and other websites

We do not run advertising. Some links on the Site may be affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something after clicking one, at no extra cost to you. When a page includes affiliate links, we say so on that page. Affiliate links never affect our reviews or scores.

If you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network may use cookies or similar technology on their own website to credit the referral. That happens on their website, not ours, and is covered by their privacy policies.

Our articles link to distilleries, retailers, and other websites. Those websites have their own privacy practices, which we don’t control.

6. How long we keep information

We keep contact-form messages only as long as needed to respond to you and keep reasonable records. You can ask us to delete them at any time. Analytics information does not identify you.

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information you’ve sent us by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor those requests as required. Because we don’t sell or share personal information and don’t track you across websites, there is nothing you need to opt out of.

8. Age requirement

The Site is intended only for adults of legal drinking age (21 or older in the United States). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21. If you believe someone under 21 has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect the Site and any information you send us, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections and security monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

10. Where information is processed

The Site is operated from the United States, and information is processed primarily in the United States. Our security and delivery provider, Cloudflare, operates servers around the world, so technical information about your visit may pass through the Cloudflare server closest to you.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above.
