Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Irish Whiskey

A little background

Writers’ Tears is a blend of aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt Irish whiskey that was distilled from barley, both malted and unsalted. Writers’ Tears is triple distilled, non-peated and matured in Flame Charred American Oak bourbon casks. This whiskey is bottled at 80 proof and carries a retail price of $39 USD.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)

Color

Pale Gold

Nose

Apples, marshmallow fluff, peaches, vanilla, and an overall sweetness.

Palate

A hint of ginger spice, lemon citrus, peaches, and vanilla. Not overly complex.

Finish

Short and sweet with subtle notes of milk chocolate, orange liqueur, vanilla, and an almond nuttiness.

In closing

Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Irish Whiskey isn’t the most complex bottle of whiskey out there, but for around $40, it’s an incredible value. I was pleasantly impressed with the flavor profile, which coats the mouth wonderfully with citrus dessert-like qualities. When compared to other Irish Whiskies in the same price range, Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Irish Whiskey is far superior. This is a bottle that I feel most would enjoy I’ll certainly be recommending to people looking to dip their toes in the world of Irish Whiskey.
