(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)
Color
Copper
Nose
Vanilla, orange cream, walnuts, bubble gum, artificial sugar, and a strong rye note. A very enjoyable nose!
Palate
Watered down pancake syrup, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, orange, sweet tea, and plenty of rye spice. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin and sweet.
Finish
The finish isn’t super long, but what you get is quite enjoyable. Sweet notes of mint, rye spice, vanilla, and cinnamon. This whiskey left my mouth tasting as though I had just had a sip of a mint julep.
In closing
Overall, Nashville Barrel Company Small Batch Rye Whiskey is an enjoyable rye whiskey that could easily become a daily sipper for me. There was a very prominent sweetness, however, the rye spice and alcohol helped keep things balanced. The palate did seem a bit thin, making me wonder what qualities were impacted when it was proofed down to 50% ABV. Although a bit on the high end of the pricing spectrum, this is certainly a rye whiskey that has earned a spot on my bar and I’d be proud to share a pour with a friend.
