2026 Michter's 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon

A little background

The 2026 Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a limited production, single barrel release from one of the most celebrated names in American whiskey. Coming in at 94.4 proof (47.2% ABV) and retailing for $195 for a 750ml bottle, this expression is distilled in Kentucky and aged in new, fire-charred American white oak barrels. Mash bill details aren’t publicly disclosed by Michter’s, but the result speaks for itself in the glass. Michter’s releases its 10 Year Bourbon on an irregular cadence — only when the team feels the barrels have reached their peak. As Master Distiller Dan McKee puts it, the distillery deliberately overages the whiskey beyond the ten-year mark and selects only fully matured barrels for release, meaning what ends up in the bottle has genuinely earned that age statement.

The 2026 Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon has been approved by both McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, who describes this release as a smooth, rich, and complex pour that proves you don’t need high proof to deliver a full-flavored drinking experience. That’s a philosophy Michter’s has leaned into consistently across its lineup. It’s worth noting that Michter’s was named The World’s Most Admired Whiskey by Drinks International for three consecutive years as of October 2025 — a remarkable run that reflects just how seriously the brand is taken on the global stage. For context, the 10 Year Bourbon holds a special place in the distillery’s history: along with its 10 Year Rye, it was one of the very first expressions Kentucky Michter’s ever released.

In closing

At the end of the day, the 2026 Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is exactly what you’d expect from a release that only ships when the distillery feels it’s ready — and that patience shows. The nose is inviting and layered, the palate delivers real complexity without leaning on high proof as a crutch, and the finish wraps things up with a soft, lingering sweetness that’s genuinely satisfying. This is a well-crafted, approachable sipper that rewards both newcomers and seasoned bourbon drinkers alike. At $195 a bottle, the 2026 Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is unquestionably a premium purchase, and whether it’s worth it largely depends on your expectations. It’s not a bargain by any stretch, and you’ll find more heat and intensity from similarly priced or even cheaper barrels on the shelf. But if you’re after a refined, polished ten-year bourbon with genuine depth and a soft, elegant profile, this release delivers. It’s a special-occasion bottle that earns its place in that category without having to shout about it. That said, Michter’s 10 Year is one of my personal favorite pours, and the 2026 release livd up to every expectations.
