A little background

This bourbon is made in Frankfort, Kentucky where it rests in New, Charred American Oak barrels for an undisclosed amount of time. Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #2 is the base distillate for this bourbon. The spirit is bottled in a unique decanter that has been beautifully etched with horses, trees, and a barn. The glass stopper adds an elegant touch to the complete package. MSRP for this bourbon is set around $50-$60. However, prices can vary based on availability and popularity in the secondary market. It is bottled at 100 proof.

Nose

Toasted oak, vanilla, butterscotch, and alcohol are initially present. Dark fruit, brown sugar, and smoke begin to appear slowly begin to appear. At first, the nose is dark and rich. However, there is a brightness that emerges as the bourbon rests in the glass.

Palate

The first sip is pleasant, with notes of vanilla and oak. A warm sensation is present in the chest after the first sip. The second sip has an oily viscosity and coats the entire mouth. Heat is present across the top of the tongue and continues into the back palate. Vanilla, butterscotch, char, and oak are present and are concentrated in the back palate. The third sip is bold and coats the entire mouth with bold flavor and heat. Caramel and leather notes accompany the tasting notes above.

Finish

The finish is long and accompanied by a subtle warmth that coats the mouth. Caramel, smoke, and char are present. Faint hints of vanilla waft wax and wane as the finish begins to fade.

In conclusion

Rock Hill Farms bourbon greets the drinker with a deep and rich complexity. The nose is dark, rich, and enticing. Notes of butterscotch, char, vanilla, and oak are most prominent. The finish is long and is accompanied by an enjoyable temperateness. New or seasoned bourbon drinkers will enjoy this spirit from the first pour to the last.
