Old Ezra 7 Year Barrel Strength

A little background…having just completed construction of their own distillery in Bardstown, all LuxRow Distillers bourbons are sourced from other distilleries with Heaven Hill being the most prevalent.  The Old Ezra 7 Year Barrel Strength clocks in at 117⁰ with a retail price of $40.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)

Color in the glass:  Medium Amber

Nose:  Cinnamon and vanilla are dominant with a bit of almond butter.  After a few minutes in the glass a buttered corn on the cob makes a pleasant appearance.

Palate:  Spicy with cinnamon and nutmeg.  The sweetness comes in the form of Bananas Foster and brown sugar.  The little heat on the tongue works in concert with the flavors for an enjoyable and classic bourbon experience.

Finish:  The almonds from the nose return accompanied by milk chocolate and salted caramel.  The oak finally makes its presence known with a hint of tobacco and cedar.  A minty freshness rounds out the finish.

In closing…LuxRow gave the people what we asked for; a cask strength aged stated whiskey at an affordable price and I applaud them for it.  While not the most complex bourbon what it does do is provide a classic bourbon experience with an enjoyable taste and smell.  I am looking forward to what LuxRow has in store with future batches of Old Ezra Barrel Proof.

  1. I enjoy your reviews. However when you find one you seem to really enjoy you give it lower marks than one that you rate as marginal. I’m confused. Still a fan.
