A little background

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, and honors Reverend Elijah Craig, the Baptist minister widely credited as the father of bourbon. Once carrying a 12-year age statement, the brand removed it several years ago to allow greater flexibility and variation across batches while maintaining its hallmark of being uncut, unfiltered, and bottled straight from the barrel. Three batches are released annually, each identified by a letter (A, B, or C), the month of release, and the year.

Batch C925 – the third release of 2025 – was bottled in September at exactly 129 proof after aging 9 years and 1 month. It carries Heaven Hill’s standard bourbon mash bill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye, and retails for approximately $75 USD.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)

Color

Dark Gold

Nose

Brown sugar, caramel, toasted oak, vanilla, apple, and toffee.

Palate

Caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, cherry, and oak.

Finish

Cinnamon spice, brown sugar, dry oak, caramel, and lingering pepper.

In closing

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C925 is a bold, sweet, and spice-driven bourbon that punches well at 129 proof, delivering waves of brown sugar, caramel, and cinnamon red-hot intensity alongside a thick, mouth-coating texture that makes it remarkably approachable neat. While the drop to a 9-year-1-month age statement is noticeable in moments of youthful ethanol heat and a touch of dry oak, the overall package remains impressively balanced and rewarding, especially for the $75 price tag. It does lack the profound depth and refinement of the very best ECBP batches, but it’s still a crowd-pleasing, barrel proof pour that over-delivers on sweetness and spice-driven excitement.

For fans of big, uncut Heaven Hill bourbon who love their whiskey sweet, spicy, and unapologetically powerful, ECBP C925 is an easy recommendation and one of the stronger values in the barrel-proof category today.
