A little background

Redbreast Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is distilled at Midleton Distillery located in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland which also produces Jameson and Tullamore Dew. The whiskey is aged at least 21 years and uses both a malted barley and an unmalted barley mashbill. The whiskey is 92 proof, non-chill filtered, and is triple distilled in copper pot stills. It is matured in oak casks and is a blended whiskey that comes in at a price of around $280. Redbreast 21 Year Old is released in limited quantities.

Nose

The nose showed maturity with delicate notes of tropical fruit, a subtle vanilla sweetness, the classic pot still flavor from Irish whiskey, and a fair bit of red fruit.

Palate

The palate is an explosion of bright red fruits like raspberry and strawberry but also carries over the tropical fruits of pineapple and mango from the nose. There are also developed sweet flavors such as honey and vanilla. The palate finishes with an array of kitchen spices such as clove.

Finish

Redbreast 21 Year Old has a medium-length finish that is full of the red and tropical fruit that follows the palate. This flavors are accentuated by the sweet notes of baked bread with honey drizzled on top and vanilla.

In closing

This is a very good Irish whiskey. It blossoms with the developed fruit notes and sweet notes that it provides. The age is apparent as you drink this whiskey as the notes are developed and well refined. This is a special occasion whiskey that should be shared with friends.
