Town Branch 7 Year Kentucky Single Malt

A little background

Town Branch 7 Year Kentucky Single Malt is produced from a mash bill of 100% malted barley and aged for a minimum of seven years in used Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale barrels. Bottled at 87 proof and non-chill filtered, it carries an MSRP of $38. We originally reviewed this whiskey in 2020, and this updated review revisits the expression as it stands today. You can read our previous review here. As part of one of the oldest Kentucky single malt programs in existence, it continues to reflect the distillery’s long-running commitment to malt whiskey production in the Commonwealth.

Town Branch Distillery is part of Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., a family-owned operation with roots that trace back to the 1890s. Revived in 1999 by Pearse Lyons, the brewery and distillery have grown into a dual-craft enterprise that honors traditional brewing and distilling practices while continuing to innovate. With copper pot stills imported from Scotland and a history of integrating bourbon barrel aging into both beer and spirits, Town Branch has established a portfolio that includes malt, bourbon, rye, and specialty releases.

Town Branch 7 Year Kentucky Single Malt delivers a well-rounded, malt-forward profile that highlights the strengths of American Single Malt at an accessible price point. Its blend of toffee, honey, citrus, and warm baking spice creates a layered yet easygoing experience, with gentle oak supporting rather than dominating the core malt character. The result is a flavorful and impressively balanced whiskey that offers exceptional value and showcases just how enjoyable a straightforward, well-crafted single malt can be. Over time, this expression has clearly evolved in a positive way, emerging as a fantastic American Single Malt that continues to overdeliver for its price.
