Bib & Tucker 6-Year Small Batch Bourbon

A little background

Bib & Tucker Small Batch is a 6 year-old sourced bourbon that was originally produced by 35 Maple Street Spirits but is now owned by Deutsch Family Wine and Spirits. This Tennessee whiskey is sourced from an unknown distillery and is double-distilled. It is made from a mash of 70% corn, 26% rye, and 4% malted barley and is aged for at least 6 years in No. 1 charred American white oak barrels. This flagship product for Bib & Tucker retails for roughly $60.

Color

Orange amber

Nose

The nose is quite light and delivers an immediate note of dried grass and a slight amount of ethanol. This is followed by caramel, some toasted grain, plenty of dry vanilla, and some baking spice.

Palate

The mouthfeel is average and there is plenty of warm vanilla carrying over from the nose. I also found some cinnamon spice, anise, and a touch of a slightly floral note, almost like dried ginger. There’s a nice balance of oak and sweetness that underscores all these of flavors.

Finish

The finish was relatively short and unimpressive. I found more vanilla, some caramel coated peanuts, rye spice developing, and green oak rounding out the pour.

In closing

This 6 year-old, small batch bourbon is a good entry-level whiskey for someone looking for a relatively low proof and easy-drinking whiskey. The flavors are basic but pleasant, and they generally blend together quite well. I also enjoyed some of the spice notes that present throughout. However, this whiskey really doesn’t provide much in terms of complexity and depth of flavor, and despite the 6 year age statement, felt somewhat young and underdeveloped.
