Old Forester Signature 100 Proof

A little background

The Old Forester Signature is a more robust 100⁰ version of the company’s flagship Old Forester Classic.  The Old Forester website states that the OF Signature was made to honor founder George Garvin Brown, who put his signature on every bottle.  Retail price is around $22.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)

Color in the glass

Light Amber

Nose

Unripe banana, pear, vanilla, and honey sweet cornbread.  Sweet and inviting with just a very slight sting when you really get down into the glass.

Palate

The fruits from the nose hit the front of the palate as Golden Delicious Apples.  Some pear remains but the prevalent banana from the nose is absent.  Caramel and vanilla then take over creating a pleasurable but not too complex of a flavor profile.

Finish

Here is where a little of the youth shows its face, but it is not off putting.  It is on the shorter side with hints of clove and allspice coming through from the rye in the mash bill.

In closing

Like many people in this hobby I search for and drink what’s “hot” right now whether it be yearly limited releases or private group/store pick single barrels, so I had overlooked this bottle for too long.  The Old Forester Signature is a quality bourbon that is both affordable and easy to find that I do not hesitate to recommend as a daily drinker for both experienced and inexperienced bourbon drinkers.
