In closing
Overall, Nashville Barrel Company Small Batch Rye 2 is impressive to say the least. The 4 year and 8 year old barrels blended wonderfully together and produced a finished product that drinks more like a 6-8 year old rye whiskey than a 4-6 year old rye whiskey. I found a good deal of depth and complexity on this whiskey from the nose all the way though to the palate. The flavor profile is quite unique and has some very interesting notes of jalapeño (without the heat) pepper, vanilla wafer, apple, and citrus cream. Nashville Barrel Company Small Batch Rye 2 would be the perfect ingredient in a whiskey forward cocktail and is of course fantastic sipped neat. The big question though, is it better than Batch 1? Simply put, yes. In my opinion Batch 2 is more complex and delivers a better profile of flavor.
