Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon A122

A little background

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon provides a chance to enjoy the proclaimed Heaven Hill wheated mash bill at cask strength. The mash bill consists of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. After aging for six to eight years, the spirit is non-chill filtered, and is then bottled at barrel proof. Each January, May, and September a new batch of Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon is released, this batch of A122 being released in January 2022.

Taking a closer look at the batch name, the “A” in A122 denotes that it is the first batch of the year, “1” is the month that it was released in (January), and “22” signifies the year it was released in. Larceny Barrel Proof A122 is bottled at 124.4 proof and carries a suggested retail price of around $50 USD.

Color

Dark Gold

Nose

Dark fruit, vanilla, brown sugar, and wood.

Palate

Pancake syrup, lemon citrus, brown sugar, over steeped black tea, oak, and prominent alcohol burn.

Finish

Dark cocoa, toasted oak, spice, maple syrup, and woody tannic oak.

In closing

Larceny Barrel Proof A122 is an overall enjoyable Bourbon that boasts a lively palate and finish. Although far from bad, the nose is the least impressive aspect of this whiskey. The palate is rich and viscous and the finish is exceptionally long. Although I’m not one to often add water to my whiskey, I did find that a few drops of H20 do help calm down the alcohol and reduce the tannic and drying aspects. With water, much more of the sweet maple syrup and lemon notes come through. At $50, Larceny Barrel Proof A122 is an absolute bargain.
