Michter's 10 Bourbon

A little background

Michter’s releases a 10 year bourbon and rye every year, and each time they become highly sought-after bottles. The Michter’s 2019 10 year Single Barrel bourbon is sourced from an undisclosed source, and sits at a cool 94.4 proof. If able to be found, the recommended MSRP is around $130.

(Tasted neat from a Halo Glass)

Color

Yellow Gold

Nose

The nose is complex and full of notes of orange rind, creme brûlée, oak spice, caramel, cloves, and grape leaves. It is very well balanced, and not too in-your-face.

Palate

The palate is medium, and offers a robust burst of flavor. I taste orange rind, caramel, oak spice, cloves, and cream on the mid palate, accompanied by a stronger note of oak spice on the back palate. On the second sip, I got grape leaves and stewed blueberries on the front palate, and a repeat of the same notes on the mid and back palate. The complexity is very nice, more than I am used to for this proof.

Finish

The finish is medium and carries over the wonderful notes of orange rind, cream, oak spice, and honey on the mid and back palate. The front palate then begins to accept the notes of oak spice, but only just. It coats the palate fairly well, and is as complex as I was expecting.

In closing

This is a great whiskey! I can see why many people seek it out. Personally, I think it is one of the better whiskies at its given proof. While it has a high price point, I understand why many think it is worth it. I like this one better than the 2018 release, I think it just had a little extra punch of flavor and complexity. If you have not tried this yet, I encourage you to do so!
