Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Special Release Heritage Barrel Rye

A little background

The Jack Daniel’s limited edition 2023 special release is a uniquely complex Tennessee Rye Whiskey. This whiskey spent time in new American white oak barrels before it was finished in Jack’s high-toast Heritage Barrels. The mash bill consists of 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley. Jack Daniel’s Heritage Rye is bottled at 100 proof. MRSP is approximately $75 for a 700 mL bottle.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)

Color

Mahogany

Nose

Notes of oak, baking spice, vanilla, and toasted marshmallow were initially present. After some time in the glass, honey, cinnamon, and brown sugar notes began to appear.

Palate

The first sip had a medium viscosity that was accompanied by warm baking spice. The second sip elicited a slight mouth drying effect that transitioned into notes of toasted rye spice, vanilla, and brown sugar. The third sip intensified the notes listed above.

Finish

The finish was medium to long and pleasant. As the finish began to fade, hints of aged tobacco and campfire smoke began to appear.

In closing

The 2023 Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Special Release Heritage Barrel Rye was a nice pour. This twice-barreled rye had nosing notes of oak, vanilla, and toasted marshmallow. The palate had a medium viscosity that was accompanied by notes of oak, vanilla, and baking spice. The finish was medium to long and mirrored the notes above. This special release is different from the Jack Daniel’s barrel proof rye, which should be a considered when sipping the Heritage Rye. This bottle would make an excellent addition to any collection.
