A little background

From the start of Fort Hamilton Distillery, owner Alex Clark has tried to pay homage to the history of not only America but that of the distilled spirit. On each bottle Hearts of Oak is centered above the Fort Hamilton logo paying homage to America’s first artillery company orchestrated by Alexander Hamilton. Fort Hamilton’s Double Barrel Bourbon is a blend of Alex’s own high rye bourbon and MGP that is non-chill filtered and produced in batches of just 500 bottles from hand-selected barrels.

In closing

Fort Hamilton Double Barrel Bourbon is an enjoyable sipping whiskey right from initial opening. Typically with younger whiskey there is a tinge of ethanol on the nose or a thin mouthfeel however this is not the case.

The nose is packed with vanilla, hints of apple and brown sugar that really entice the drinker. The palate is well done with a nice medium viscosity and creamy mouthfeel that starts out as a vanilla bomb up front turning to more caramel and spice on the mid to back palate. The finish has burnt brown sugar with a hint of oak and rye spice. There is virtually no heat or burn but rather rye tingles that seem to last for an incredibly long time. Aromas of brown sugar and vanilla come back in between sips.

At $39.99 I would highly recommend grabbing this bottle up either as an everyday sipper or for mixing cocktails for its great value, taste, and versatility. I would also feel comfortable recommending this bottle to anyone that was looking to try bourbon for the first time.
