Blood Oath Pact 9 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

A little background

Blood Oath Pact No. 9 is an ultra-premium bourbon released by Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, Kentucky. The Blood Oath series is a creation by Low Row’s Head Distiller and Master Blender John Rempe. Pact No. 9 combines some of the finest extra-aged bourbons Rempe could find, including a 16-year ryed bourbon and a 12-year ryed bourbon, as well as a 7-year ryed bourbon finished in Oloroso Sherry casks from the Sherry Triangle region in southwest Spain. These casks impart unique woody and ripe-fruit aromas and flavors to make Blood Oath Pact 9 a memorable pour.

Blood Oath Pact No. 9 is available in a limited supply of 17,000 (3-pack) cases and will arrive at retail this April ’23 at a suggested price of $129.99 per 750 ml bottle. As with all of Rempe’s pacts, Blood Oath Pact 9 is offered at 98.6 proof (49.3% ABV).

Color

Dark Gold

Nose

Fruity and tropical. Lime, canned peaches, banana, raisins, Tiramisu, and brown sugar.

Palate

Dark espresso, peaches, cinnamon, cocoa, plums, sweet tobacco, and a bit of rye spice.

Finish

Slightly drying with continued fruit. Bitter chocolate, spice, dried fruit, and apricots.

In closing

Blood Oath Pact No. 9 boasts a complex nose and deep and rich flavors. I found this whiskey to slightly hot despite its 98.6 Proof. Although the flavors are exceptions, the mouthfeel and body is somewhat underwhelming. Blood Oath Pact No. 9 is quite fruity. While the mouthfeel is thin, that experience is made up for by a fantastic nose.
