Nose
Delicious notes of spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, marshmallow cream, and caramel effortlessly jump out of the glass. After opening up a bit, notes of egg custard and dried fruits comes through. The nose is beautiful and very satisfying.
Palate
Cinnamon foreword with flavors of Brach’s Jelly Nougat, vanilla, candied fruit, and brown sugar. There is a strong confectionary sweetness component to this whiskey, along with a fair amount of heat.
Finish
A slight dryness early on in the finish gives way to a wave of additional sweet flavors. The finish is relatively long and filled with the confectionary sweetness from the palate.
In closing
Barrell Bourbon Batch No. 22 is complex, balanced, and downright enjoyable. The tasting experience is enjoyable from the nose all the way through to the finish. This is not an old whiskey by any means, as the whiskey that went into it is only around 5 years of age. This just goes to show what can be produced when you masterfully blend barrels that compliment each other so well. I’ll go to go out on a limb and say that the whole of this blend is greater than the sum of its parts! Well done Barrell Bourbon, well done.
