Bardstown Bourbon Company Fusion Series #1

A little background

The Bardstown Bourbon Company is a proverbial new kid on the block within the bourbon world.  They’ve come out swinging with a state-of-the-art distillery and many recognizable names hired on in key positions.  For the first time the distillery is releasing some of their own two-year old distillate in a blend that is comprised of 60% of their bourbon blended with 40% eleven-year-old KY straight bourbon whiskey and bottled at 98.9 Proof.  Suggested retail price of $59.99.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)

Color

Light Copper

Nose

Pine jumps out of the glass when first poured but after a few minutes vanilla and Juicy Fruit notes take over.

Palate

Very faint green note but overall tropical fruit sherbet forward (pineapple, mango, and banana) with toffee and vanilla rounding out the palate.

Finish

Warming but not hot…surprisingly full for such a high percentage of young whiskey. The 11yr old bourbon shows up more here than at any point before now with a rich charred creme brûlée.

In closing

Let’s face it, there are a lot of young distilleries with distillate coming to age now and most of it is not very good.  I’ve had my fair share of it and I can say that what the Bardstown Bourbon Company is putting out is good whiskey. Sure, Fusion shows a little youth but that can be expect given the fact that 60% is two-year-old bourbon this is a great example of what can be done with young whiskey. If you’d like purchase a bottle for yourself, it can be purchased online at Seelbach’s.
