A little background

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon provides a chance to enjoy the proclaimed Heaven Hill wheated mashbill at cask strength. This mashbill consists of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. After aging for six to eight years, the spirit is non-chill filtered, and is then bottled at barrel proof. Each January, May, and September a new batch of Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon is released. MSRP is set at $49.99 and the bourbon is bottled at 123.2 proof.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)

Color

Orange Copper

Nose

There was some alcohol on the nose when it was first poured in the glass. Sweet corn muffins, cinnamon, vanilla, toasted oak, and butterscotch are present.

Palate

The first sip has a medium viscosity and concentrated in the mid to back palate. Sweet corn, cinnamon, and faint oak were present. The second sip instantly dries the mouth. A slight vanilla sweetness is present. The third sip coats the entire mouth. Cinnamon, corn, molasses, and toasted oak are present.

Finish

The finish is long and brings the heat. The tip of the tongue and my lips continue to tingle for a period of time. Toasted oak, black pepper, cinnamon, and a slight bitterness is present. The finish is also accompanied by a mouth drying effect. As the finish lingers, faint hints of clove and allspice begin to appear.

In closing

Larceny Barrel Proof A120 brings pleasant heat and a lingering finish. Once the spirit opens in the glass beautiful notes of corn muffins, cinnamon, and vanilla shine through. If you are a fan of wheated bourbons, then this one should be on your list. Big flavor and barrel strength are a winning combination.
