A little background
Glenmorangie is a distillery based in the Highland region of Scotland. It was founded in 1843, and has been producing single malt scotch whisky ever since. The Lasanta 12 Year is a single malt scotch that has been aged for 10 years in ex-bourbon casks and then finished for 2 years in sherry casks. In 2017, The Lasanta won the World Whisky Awards “Best Highland Single Malt.” Its name comes from the word for “warmth and passion” in Gaelic. The Lasanta sits at 86 proof and can be found at an MSRP of $49.99.

Nose
The nose starts off with thick notes of chocolate covered raisins and grain. It is delightfully sweet, and makes me think of the bowl of chocolate covered raisins my grandma would keep by the TV. Warm spices like cinnamon appear, paired with other dark, dried fruits like prunes.
Palate
The body is medium-thick. Sherry and orange play a huge role in the palate. You can definitely tell that it was finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks because of the notes of dark, dried fruits and wood spices. The depth of flavors is wonderful and makes you want to keep on sipping it.
Finish
The finish is medium and is filled with notes of dried dark fruits, walnuts, and spiced orange. It coats the entire palate, especially the roof of the mouth.
In conclusion
I love this! This is one that I have not given a fair shot to before, and I’m glad I am trying it now. I think for the price it is really good whisky, and should not be overlooked. I would drink this both neat and in cocktails, as the price allows it and the flavors are bold enough for it. Without question, I would recommend giving The Lasanta 12 Year a try!
