Kooper Family Whiskey is located in Ledbetter, Texas. Founded in 2012, the blending house concept started out as a hobby for husband and wife duo Troy and Michelle Kooper. That hobby quickly turned into a 100% family-owned and operated whiskey blending business. Sourcing whiskey and carefully blending small batches together is how Kooper Family Whiskey gets its unique flavor profile. The Prodigal Son is a Limited Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey that was distilled in Kentucky and aged in Texas. This bourbon has a mashbill consisting of 78% Corn, 10% Rye, and 12% Malt. Kooper Family The Prodigal Son is aged 4 years, bottled at 86 Proof, and is a distillery only release with a $40 price tag.

In closing
Kooper Family has proven once again with the The Prodigal Son that they’re masters of sourcing and blending barrels of whiskey. This bourbon is sweet and just complex enough to make it interesting. I did find there to be a surprising amount of heat considering it’s only 86 proof. No complaints from me though, as I tend to prefer higher proof whiskey so that actually comes as a compliment and welcoming surprise. If you ever find yourself in Ledbetter, Texas you’d better be stopping by Kooper Family and picking up a bottle of this, it’s a bargain at $40!
