A little background

Jack Daniel’s released a limited edition, single barrel whiskey named the Heritage Barrel. Master Distiller Jeff Arnett and his team created a unique whiskey for this special release. The Heritage Barrel Whiskey crafted at a low temperature in a heavily toasted barrel. After barreling, the whiskey aged in one of the highest elevated Jack Daniel’s warehouses, 1-09, atop Coy Hill. The spirit is bottled at 100 proof and retails for around $70 MSRP. The resulting whiskey is a tribute to the early craftsmanship of the Jack Daniel’s Distillery.

Nose

The nose is pleasant. Vanilla and baking spices are immediately evident. Caramel and smoke being to appear as the spirit opens in the glass.

Palate

The first sip has a thin to medium viscosity. Smoke and vanilla are initially present. There is a slight heat that gathers in the back palate and slowly settles in the chest. The second sip has a medium viscosity and completely permeates the mouth. Toasted oak, spice, and vanilla are present. The third sip was complimentary with vanilla, oak, and spice; however, a distinct caramel note emerged.

Finish

The finish is medium to long. There is a good balance of heat and flavor. Oak spice, vanilla, dark fruit, char, and smoke are noticeable.

In conclusion

The Jack Daniel’s special release Heritage Barrel Whiskey is a uniquely crafted spirit that lives up to the hype. This spirit boats notes of vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and baking spices. Although many Jack Daniel’s products are considered to be sub-par by many bourbon lovers, the Heritage Barrel will give any Kentucky Bourbon a run for its money. This Tennessee Whiskey would make an excellent addition to any collection.
