A little background
Glenlossie is a little known distillery that shares a warehouse and facilities with Mannochmore Distillery, which is also a small little know distillery. Glenlossie does not produce many single malt bottling, as they’re usually used in blends. Unique and hard to find, Glenlossie is an experience in itself. This is my first Old Single Malts of Scotland and my first Glenlossie. Glenlossie 2008 11 Year Old Single Malts of Scotland was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2019 at 59.4% ABV. This review is based on cask no. 1358.
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)
Color
Light Gold
Nose
A medicinal note straight away – herbal and slightly fruity. Spice and a grassy fresh cut grass smell. Slightly oily with slight savoriness, but herbal like thyme, vanilla, caramel and sugar syrup. A light nose.
Palate
Dry and sweet at the same time, strange. Slight sourness after sweetness with notes of orange marmalade. Zesty dram and a little oily on the palate.
With water: softens a lot, fruitiness comes out a lot more. Sour fruits but a tad sweeter. There is a strange woodiness to it and slight leathery mouth feel.
Finish
Slight sour, bitterness and sweetness on the finish. Oily, medium to long finish with great complexity. The mouthfeel on this whisky is great.
In conclusion
Glenlossie 2008 11 Year Old Single Malts of Scotland is a great whisky for the price. It delivered a great experience – Glenlossie single malt is not something that comes up all the time. You probably drink it with many blends and see it all the time but having it in a single barrel single malt expression is something else. Should you come across a bottle or see it on a whisky menu, I recommend you indulge!
