FEW Bourbon from FEW Distillery out of Evanston, IL is a “true” handcrafted small batch (their words not mine) whiskey. It is a NAS whiskey at 93 Proof and a retail price of around $45.
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)
Color
Dark Gold
Nose
Hot with vanilla and a funky sour grape that threw me off when first nosed, interesting but not in my wheelhouse.
Palate
The funky sour notes are thankfully absent from the palate where the vanilla begins to dominate with just a touch of cocoa underneath.
Finish
Oak shows up on the finish to add an extra layer of complexity to the vanilla driven experience.
In closing
Wow, that nose really threw me off at first and to be honest was not very pleasant to me. Thankfully the palate and finish improve on the less than stellar first impression with more traditional bourbon notes. Overall this is an okay whiskey that I can see some enjoying more than myself. I’ve heard better things about their rye whiskey, so I am interested to see how it is when I get to it in the review rotation.

I really enjoy both the bourbon and rye. I think at this price point it’s hard to beat.
