Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey

A little background

Coppercraft Distillery is located in Holland, Michigan. Founded in 2012, Coppercraft was created as a tribute to the American Craftsman who took pride in the quality of their work. They hope to instill the same heritage from the industrious workers into the production of their spirits. Coppercraft Distillery’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 97 proof. The small batch straight bourbon whiskey is a blend of Coppercraft 4+ year old distillate and 11+ year sourced bourbons. Copperscraft uses brandy blending and proofing technique that takes three months from the barrel to the bottle. The MSRP is $50.

Nose

Light hints of Vanilla and oak hit the nose first, followed by heavy sweet corn notes.

Palate

Mild cinnamon, vanilla, and honey are present on the first sip. The more the whiskey opened up the more crisp fruit flavors came through. There is a good amount of alcohol burn coming from the 48.5% ABV, which was actually quite enjoyable.

Finish

The finish was enjoyable, but short. The sweet corn, honey and vanilla notes carry through, however, they don’t last long. I continued to take sip after sip working for a longer finish, it never happened.

In closing

This price point for Coppercraft Distillery’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a crowded one. At a $50 price point, a ton of fantastic bottles are available at this cost. I found there to be heavy corn notes on this whiskey, which are not my personal favorite. For a blend that includes both 4+ year old and 11+ year old bourbon, I expected bigger and more complex flavors. With that being said, I did find this whiskey to be enjoyable. But for the price, I’d likely find myself reaching for another bottle.

The bottle of Coppercraft I purchased tasted like sewer water. I had to throw it down the drain. A waste of $40.
