Westland Garryana 10 Year American Single Malt Whiskey

A little background

Westland Distillery, a Seattle-based pioneer of American Single Malt Whiskey since its founding in 2010, crafts the Garryana 10th Edition as a hallmark of its innovative approach to whiskey-making. As a founding member of the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission, Westland helped establish the category’s formal ratification by the TTB in January 2025. This limited-edition release, with an estimated 4,608 bottles, showcases the distillery’s commitment to the Pacific Northwest’s unique terroir, utilizing rare Quercus Garryana oak alongside other cask types to create a distinctive flavor profile reflective of its time and place.

The Garryana 10th Edition, priced at $149.99 SRP for a 700ml bottle at 100 proof (50% ABV), marks Westland’s first age-statement whiskey, matured for a decade. Its mash bill features Westland’s signature five-malt blend combined with Washington pale malts, fermented with Belgian Saison brewer’s yeast. The whiskey is aged in a combination of first and second-fill Garry oak casks, with supporting maturation in Pedro Ximénez, rum, and ex-bourbon casks, resulting in a bold and complex single malt that highlights the intense flavor compounds of the region’s native oak

In closing

The Westland Garryana 10 Year stands as a landmark expression of American Single Malt, delivering a bold, cohesive journey from clove-laced nose through a rich, oily palate of cinnamon, chocolate, and citrus, to a finish that lingers with cocoa, raisins, and evolving spice. Its decade in Garry oak and supporting casks yields a complexity and mouthfeel that few whiskeys achieve, proving once again the category’s world-class potential. At $150 and with only about 4,600 bottles available, it’s a collector’s prize and a worthy splurge for those who value innovation and depth—though its scarcity and price will keep it out of reach for many. For enthusiasts seeking a singular Pacific Northwest voice in single malt, this is a bottle that rewards the hunt.
