A little background
Lux Row Distiller’s Double Barrel Bourbon was released by Lux Row Distillery which is located in Bardstown, Kentucky. It is believed that the 12 year age stated bourbon is sourced, but it is unknown where from. This is a 6,000 bottle limited edition release to commemorate the first anniversary of Lux Row Distillery. The double barrel term comes from selecting two twelve year barrels that complement each other and then blending them together. The 118.4 proof is to commemorate the distilleries opening in April 2018. Even though the bourbon was diluted to get to that proof, the bottles are still labeled cask strength because diluting that occurred took place in the barrel. The bottles are available for purchase at the distillery for $150. The mash bill of Lux Row Distillers 12 Year Double Barrel is undisclosed.
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)
Color
Dark Amber
Nose
The nose is full of allspice, dark cherry, leather, butterscotch and caramel. This bourbon is just begging you to drink it.
Palate
The palate has a high viscosity and is explosive with notes of dark cherry and butterscotch following the nose and combining to create an ooey, gooey mouthfeel. Loads of cinnamon and oak round out the palate.
Finish
The finish is long and full of flavor but not overpowering. The dark cherry juice notes carry through and finish with butterscotch, leather, and finesse.
In closing
This is a tremendous bourbon that I would love to own a bottle of. The $150 price tag is a little steep, but in the limited release world that we currently live in, it lives up to that price tag. Lux Row Distillers 12 Year Double Barrel is full of flavor with a palate and finish that just keep on going. I hope this bourbon is a sign of things to come from Lux Row Distillery!
