I’m the first to admit that I enjoy nice whiskey and unfortunately a side effect of that is that many of those whiskeys are expensive and only continue to increase in price year after year. So, like many, I have a few go-to “bottom shelf” pours and today I’m going to share what I believe to be one of the best, if not the best values in bourbon. J.T.S Brown Bottled in Bond comes from the venerable Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, KY. Being that it is Bottled in Bond, we know it’s at least 4 years old and comes in at 100 proof. J.T.S. Brown Bottled in Bond is made from a 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley mashbill and best of all, it’s only about $10 bucks for a 750ml! Yes, $10!
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)
Color
Dark Gold
Nose
Sweet and spicy with candy corn, vanilla, cinnamon, and allspice.
Palate
Oily texture and a brown sugar bomb with buttered popcorn, whipped cream, and cinnamon.
Finish
Slight tongue burn with a cinnamon swell and the other flavors from the palate linger nicely.
In closing
This is just damn good bourbon at a damn good price. Classic bourbon notes throughout and enough proof to keep things interesting makes this a no-brain buy for anyone that enjoys whiskey. I was hesitant to post this review for fear, as Matt poetically put it, of pissing off all the old men in liquor stores by bringing attention to their beloved J.T.S. Brown Bottled in Bond. But this is a bourbon deserving of a little attention…just not too much I suppose.

Its not sold in TN. Its a limited mainly local distribution. I’ve only seen/heard of it in KY and IN. Got a bottle of the 100 proof and 80 proof at a Total wine just south of Lexington, KY.
The review is right on. My favorite budget bourbon that hasn’t been downgraded to “bourbon with natural flavors” as so many other older brands have. About $25 a handle in SE Indiana.
Totally agree with your assessment of this fine bourbon. Going for about $12 in SE Indiana and always available. Always keep a bottle or two in my cabinet. Let’s hope HH keeps this brand alive.
We’re you able to get that in H-town or did you have to drive over the border?
Bought in Ashland KY at Good Spirits pretty easy to find there.
Really good bourbon for the price. I just purchased my second bottle,$12.95. Old Grandad B&B is also a good choice but costs around the $22 mark.
I continue to look for this (Northeast Arkansas and the Memphis area) but have yet to find it. Hopefully, one day I will find it.
