A little background
Hirsch Whiskey, inspired by the legacy of Adolph Hirsch and his iconic A.H. Hirsch Reserve, partners with the historic Hine Cognac house, founded in 1763, to craft The Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon. This limited-release expression, with only 3,900 bottles produced, is crafted from a mash bill of 72% corn, 13% rye, and 15% malted barley, double distilled in small copper pot stills, and aged for 5 years and 8 months in new char #3 and toasted American oak barrels before finishing for 1 year and 10 months in 30-year-old Hine XO Cognac barrels in Bardstown, Kentucky. Bottled at a robust 127 proof (63.5% ABV) and priced at $180 SRP for a 750ml bottle.

In closing
Hirsch The Cask Strength Finished in Hine Cognac Casks is a bold and ambitious expression that blends the robust, rye-forward character of Kentucky bourbon with the elegant, fruity finesse of 30-year-old Hine XO Cognac barrels, offering a complex sip with vibrant baking spices, rich stone fruits, and a dry, oaky finish. The Cognac finish infuses delightful layers of plum, grape, and subtle florals, complemented by a thick, oily mouthfeel that remains approachable despite its 127-proof intensity, rewarding those who savor its evolving flavors.
Presented in a striking, high-quality box that elevates its premium appeal at this price point, it’s a standout for collectors and enthusiasts. While the cost may stretch budgets and the palate can feel slightly thin at times with a warm delivery, the bourbon and Cognac elements create a unique, engaging experience that shines for those who enjoy experimental cask finishes, making it a compelling choice for whiskey lovers seeking a distinctive pour.
