High West Double Rye

A little background

High West Distillery is located in Park City, Utah and produces a number of spirits. Double Rye is a blend of 2-7 years old rye whiskeys coming from both High West distillate and MGP distillate. The MGP distillate is a 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash bill while the High West distillate is an 80% rye and 20% malted barley mash bill. This is a small batch rye coming in at 92 proof and an MSRP of around $35.

Nose

The nose is very earthy with a lot of florality and mint. There is also the note of a freshly mown lawn.

Palate

This rye has a low to medium viscosity with notes of vanilla, citrus, nutmeg, and allspice. The florality and grass notes carry over from the palate.

Finish

There is a short to medium length finish with notes of allspice, citrus, and mint.

In closing

This whiskey really surprised me. At the $35 price point, I think it is a great value and would definitely pick up a bottle. On top of that, this bottle is readily available. I was a fan of this pour and am excited to see what High West releases in the future!
