George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey

A little background

George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey takes its namesake from Cincinnati Prohibition-era bootlegger George Remus, the “King of the Bootleggers.” MGP Ingredients acquired the George Remus brand from Queen City Whiskey Co. in November 2016. This bourbon is a blend of high-rye bourbons aged for a minimum of four years before being bottled without chill filtering at 94 Proof. George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey has a suggested retail price of around $40 USD.

Color

Bronze

Nose

Sweet with notes of maple syrup, vanilla, and syrupy fruit salad.

Palate

Vanilla, crisp apples, berries, and rye spice.

Finish

Smooth, sweet, and pleasant with notes maple syrup Luxardo cherries, vanilla, and spice.

In closing

George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey is an easy sipping whiskey that’s got an overall enjoyable flavor profile. There is a sweetness throughout of maple syrup and vanilla that’s accompanied by a nice rye spice. For the $40 price point, I think this is a good option in that price range and wouldn’t leave anyone disappointed. Although good neat, it would also be a fantastic mixer.
