Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon Whiskey

A little background

Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon is a 4 year bourbon that hails from Nevada. Something really interesting about this distillery is that they grow, distill, age, and bottle their whiskey all on their farm. Considering it is a smaller operation than most distilleries, that is very impressive! This whiskey is made with a unique mashbill of non-gmo corn, winter cereal rye, winter wheat and two-row barley. Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon sits at 90 proof and sells at an MSRP of $50.

Nose

The nose is pretty unique, and more complex than I was expecting. There are very light notes of musty corn, along with pleasant notes of baking spices and oranges. While swirling the whiskey, it opened up to show sweeter notes of caramel and vanilla.

Palate

The palate is medium bodied. Immediately I identify notes of mint, orange, and strong baking spices on the mid and sides of the mid palate. Candy corn and sweet vanilla coat the back palate, and a slight tingle of baking spices touches the front palate. This has some nice flavor to it!

Finish

The finish is medium and consists of banana, very subdued caramel, candy corn, and black pepper.

In closing

Overall I found Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon to be quite enjoyable! To be honest, I was not expecting much from a 4 year, 90 proof bourbon farm Nevada. I was proven wrong! I can tell the time and care they put into this product. The flavors are there, and they are strong considering the proof. At $50, I would put this on my shelf as something I’d sip at the end of a hot day. This bourbon should make Nevada proud!
