A little background

The E.H. Taylor Jr. Straight Rye is a product of Buffalo Trace Distillery. The mash bill for this product is undisclosed, however, the distillate is composed of Buffalo Trace’s high rye mash bill. This product is released without an age statement, is bottled at 100 proof, and has an MSRP set at approximately $80.

Color

Medium Amber

Nose

The nose is sweet and spicy. Faint notes of dark roast coffee are accompanied by toasted oak and baking spices. A faint dill note is also present.

Palate

The first sip has a medium viscosity paired with an immediate pop of rye spice. The second sip begins with a rye sweetness that transitions into notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and faint hints of dill. The third sip coats the entire mouth. Initially, an evergreen note is present. However, this note quickly fades to rough ground allspice and stale cinnamon.

Finish

The finish is medium to long and pleasant. Notes of rye spice, cinnamon, toasted oak, and vanilla are initially present. As the finish begins to fade, a nice mint note begins to appear.

In closing

The E.H. Taylor Jr. Straight rye will entice you with its sweet and spicy nose. Notes of Toasted oak, vanilla, and baking spices will coat your palate as you work through a glass of this spirit. The finish is medium to long and has a nice mint note that appears as the finish begins to fade. If you are a fan of Rye Whiskey, this is a bottle you will want on your bar!
