A little background

Chivas Regal 18 Gold Signature is an 18 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky that was produced from whiskies that were hand selected for their richness and matured for at least 18 years. According to Chivas Regal, the result is a uniquely deep multi-layered and luxurious blend. They also claim there to be a blend of 85 flavours notes in every drop. Interesting. Chivas Regal 18 Gold Signature is bottled at 80 proof and sells for around $80.

(Tasted neat from a Halo Glass)

Honey

Nose

The nose immediately reminded me of orange Pez candy. There were slight notes of malt, chocolate, and orange. A very small hint of toffee also breaks through.

Palate

The palate is medium, and filled with notes such as peaty smoke, unsweetened cacao, barrel char, marshmallow, and a hint of orange. It is not terribly complex, but has some good flavors.

Finish

The finish is medium, and mainly consists of smoke and barrel char on the mid palate.

In closing

This whisky was good, but nothing overly special. Especially for an 18 Year old whisky. I honestly thought that the previously reviewed 13 year Manchester United release was better than this, and nearly half the price. It’s certainly a very reasonably priced 18 Year old whisky, however, I’d likely put my money towards a lesser priced Chivas Regal and save myself some money and be just as happy.
