Broken Barrel Cask of Amontillado

A little background

Broken Barrel Whiskey drew from the famous author Edgar Allen Poe when they created this union of 12-year-old light whiskey and 5-year-old corn whiskey. This blend is finished with staves that infuse the distinct taste of Amontillado into the whiskey. The Mashbill consists of 95% Indiana corn and 5% malted barley. MRSP for this whiskey is set at $50 and it was bottled at 110 proof.

Nose

The nose is rich and spicy. Hints of black pepper and cherry shine through.

Palate

The first sip is thin and harsh. A blast of heat and spice is followed by corn and oak notes. The second sip is harsh with notes of wet leather, black pepper, and oak. The third sip is a combination of the first two with more pronounced notes.

Finish

The finish is medium and spicy. The spirit settles in the chest. Bitter oak, cinnamon, and fermented wine notes are present. The finish fades into all spice and clove after some time.

In closing

The Broken Barrel Amontillado is unique. The spirit is somewhat effervescent and packed with spice. Oak spice and musty earth are notes are the most evident. This whiskey is not for everyone. Those with a mature palate who enjoy black pepper and spice will enjoy this whiskey.
