Breckenridge Single Barrel

A little background

Founded in 2008, Breckenridge Distillery calls themselves the “World’s Highest Distillery” and uses water from Rocky Mountain snowmelt in their blending and distilling.  The 92 Proof Single Barrel Bourbon line comes in at a recommended retail price of $199.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)

Color

Medium Gold

Nose

Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread, Rye, Black licorice, and toffee.  While not too complex the aromas are very pleasant.

Palate

Lighter than the nose leads you to believe but the flavors are all there, including the unique Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread. Velvety and mouth coating.

Finish

Very little alcohol burn. Sweet tea and oak linger longer than I expected.

In closing

Bottom line is this was a good barrel of bourbon.  It is an easy sipper with nice flavors and an interesting nose of balanced baking spice and fruit.  The palate and finish fall off a little from the strong first impression that the nose made, but nothing about either one was off putting in any way.  Due to the nature of single barrels your experience may be different.
