Releases No. 6 (Spring) and No.7 (Fall) of Sam Houston 15 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey are the most aged bourbon offerings to date rom Sam Houston. These releases were crafted from specific barrels in a private reserve of premium bourbon. This bourbon was distilled from a mash bill of 74% Corn, 18% Rye, and 8% Malted Barley before spending 15 years and 0 Months in barrels with a #4 Char. Sam Houston 15 Year Old Bourbon is bottle at 103 proof without the use of chill filtering and has a suggested retail price of $129.99 USD.

Color

Tawny

Nose

Vanilla, nutmeg, butterscotch, baking spice, orangish cherry, barrel char, and oak.

Palate

Layers of fruit, almost like a fruit punch. More notes of brown sugar, barrel char, and oak.

Finish

Black cherry and black liquorice early on the finish, followed up with notes of brown sugar, and heavy barrel char. The finish is long and drying.

In closing

Sam Houston 15 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is without a doubt a very enjoyable bourbon from the nose all the way through to the finish. The layers of fruit on the palate make for a very unique tasting experience, while the finish brings for more and more. Sam Houston 15 Year is an exceptional bourbon and priced extremely fair at just around $130.
