A little background

Pursuit Spirits was brought to market by the creators of Bourbon Pursuit podcast, Kenny Coleman and Ryan Cecil. Pursuit United Rye is a blend of Rye whiskey from Kentucky (Bardstown Bourbon Co.) and Maryland (Sagamore Spirit). Featuring three different mash bills (95% Rye and 5% Malted Marley from Kentucky and 95% Rye, 5% Malted Barley / 52% Rye, 43% Corn, 5% Malted Barley from Maryland) this straight rye whiskey is bottled at 108 Proof and has a retail price of $65 USD.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)

Color

Dark Gold

Nose

Orange/lemon citrus, vanilla cool whip, mint, and baking spice.

Palate

Lemon Jolly Ranchers, burnt caramel, orange citrus, burnt caramel, brown sugar, and rye spice.

Finish

Lemon sweet tea, orange, vanilla cream, raisins, rye spice, and continued burnt caramel.

In closing

A very pleasant rye whiskey that expertly blends the high rye and low rye mash bills. For me, the rye spice was present throughout but not in an over powering way. Pursuit United Rye is a citrus-forward whiskey with great flavors of burnt caramel and sweet candy. This is a whiskey that both a seasoned and novice rye drinkers would appreciate.
