A little background
More Pursuit Spirits coming at you with Episode 009 this time! Episode 009 is a 14yr TN bourbon at 106.3 Proof with the flavor text reading, “Pastries anyone? This bourbon bakery has fresh chocolate croissants.” Retail price of $110 at seelbachs.com with bottles remaining at the time of writing.
Nose
Spicy and floral…allspice, cinnamon, star anise, and toffee. A little more alcohol burn than I was expecting for 106.3 Proof.
Palate
Graham crackers, vanilla, nutmeg, and allspice.
Finish
On the short side for a 14yr Bourbon with cinnamon, bitter dark chocolate, and cigar tobacco.
In closing
Ok, ok this is not what I was expecting. This is an off-profile barrel that reminds me more of Heaven Hill’s wheated mash-bill than any TN bourbon I’ve had. So, if you aren’t a big fan of the mineral notes often associated with the distillate.
