The guys at Pursuit Spirits are at it again with Episodes 008 and 009 releasing in March. This review will focus on Episode 008 which is a 10yr TN bourbon at 103.8 Proof. The show notes state they tried to eliminate this barrel three times but couldn’t because it was too good. Retail price of $75 at seelbachs.com and bottles still available at the time of writing.
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)
Color in the glass
Medium Copper
Nose
Citrus and vanilla, cocoa powder, brown sugar, coconut cream pie, roasted walnuts
Palate
Light on the mineral note that some find off putting of this distillery…cough, cough, Dickel…vanilla, nutmeg, and walnut complement each other nicely.
Finish
Longer than anticipated with the coconut cream pie and citrus returning from the nose and pleasantly hanging around, then it gets dark with cocoa throughout the rest of the duration.
In closing
This is one my personal favorites (alongside Ep. 002 but for entirely different reasons) so far out of the Pursuit Series. It is light and approachable which isn’t my preferred profile and admittedly I am not a big Dickel fan but what Kenny and Ryan are doing with the Pursuit Series shows that when bourbon guys go out to pick barrels that they themselves want to drink then good things happen. Also, I am glad this survived the cutting block because it is damn good.
