A little background

Penelope Bourbon’s latest release, Penelope Valencia Vino de Naranja Finished Bourbon, pairs the brand’s Four Grain Straight Bourbon with a Spanish twist, finishing it in Vino de Naranja casks from Sevilla, Spain. This unique choice of finishing cask, traditionally used to age the vibrant, aromatic orange wine known as Vino de Naranja, brings a distinctively bold and citrus-forward character to Penelope’s bourbon. Vino de Naranja is crafted by aging white wine with the bitter, fragrant peels of Seville oranges in oak barrels.

Penelope Valencia features a mash bill of 74% corn, 7% rye, 16% wheat, and 3% malted barley, is bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV) and retails for $79.99 per 750mL bottle. With a limited release of only 5,000 cases, Penelope Valencia offers a one-of-a-kind experience, blending American bourbon heritage with the distinctive Spanish tradition of orange wine.

In closing

In conclusion, Penelope Valencia Vino de Naranja Finished Bourbon offers a delightful and refreshing whiskey experience that stands out from the crowd. The nose is sweet and inviting, with bright citrus notes balanced by hints of vanilla, caramel, and warming spices. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of nutmeg, fresh orange, and apricot, adding complexity without being overly rich or heavy. With a dry, expressive profile and an intriguing, juicy finish, this bourbon is both approachable and distinctive—an enjoyable pour that showcases Penelope’s flair for creative cask finishes.
