A little background

Another of the in/famous Weller range from Buffalo Trace, Weller Antique 107 comes in at you guessed it 107⁰.  It is non-age stated but seems to average around the 7-year mark.  This review is for the normal batched Antique 107, also note the label is known to produce some stellar store/group picks, so you should always keep an eye out for those.  Retail price at the time of writing is around $26.

(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)

Color in the glass

Light Amber

Nose

Raspberries, fried cherry pie, vanilla, apricots.

Palate

Cherry syrup (pie filling), pecan pie, butterscotch, baking spices, and vanilla.

Finish

The sweet cherry dissipates leaving a spicy finish with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and clove with an underlying oak note.

In closing

Oh yeah that’s good bourbon, and the profile I associate with a “wheater” …sweet fruits backed by light spice notes from the increased proof.  The delicate notes in this have not been overpowered by the tannic oak that I find a little too heavy in Weller 12.  I recommend picking up a bottle or two if you see it on the shelf but try to leave some for the next enthusiast who may wander into the store.
