Larceny Barrel Proof A121 Bourbon

A little background

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon provides a chance to enjoy the proclaimed Heaven Hill wheated mash bill at cask strength. The mash bill consists of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. After aging for six to eight years, the spirit is non-chill filtered, and is then bottled at barrel proof. Each January, May, and September a new batch of Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon is released, this batch of A121 being released in January 2021. Taking a closer look at the batch name, the “A” in A121 denotes that it is the first batch of the year, “1” is the month that it was released in (January), and “21” signifies the year it was released in. Larceny Barrel Proof A121 is bottled at 114.8 proof and carries a suggested retail price of around $50 USD.

Color

Gold

Nose

Lime jello, pumpkin custard, clove, nutmeg, orange, and an overall baking spice nose.

Palate

Sweet dried cherries, orange custard, vanilla, and a light dusting of cocoa.

Finish

Wonderful layers of syrup, chocolate fudge, charred oak, baking spices, and a lingering sweetness.

In closing

Long story short, A121 is my favorite Larceny Barrel Proof release to date. The nose started off with a unique pumpkin custard note, followed by a sweet and rich palate and finish. This bourbon is very well balanced and complex enough to keep any bourbon connoisseur coming back for more. At $50, Larceny Barrel Proof is an absolute steal and one I’ll pick up every time I see it.
