Chattanooga Whiskey Tennessee Rye Malt

A little background

Chattanooga Whiskey Tennessee Rye Malt is the latest product to be added to the Chattanooga Whiskey portfolio of products. Just like Chattanooga Whiskey 91 & 111, Tennessee Rye Malt also has roots from their Experimental Distillery and was one of the first Experimental batches. Chattanooga Whiskey Tennessee Rye Malt is made from a four-grain mash bill, with greater than 60% of that coming from malted rye. The additional grains in the recipe include an unreleased percentage of yellow corn, caramel malted rye, and malted barley. This whiskey is aged for greater than 3 years in 53-gallon charred oak barrels, it’s bottled at 99 proof, and has a suggested retail price of $39.99.

Color

Dark Amber

Nose

The nose is pleasantly sweet with notes of vanilla, honey, nutmeg, orange cream, and herbs.

Palate

Complex, viscous, and a wonderful balance of sweetness and spice. Citrus, vanilla coca-cola and baking spice notes lead the path to pleasant and subtle rye flavors.

Finish

The finish is relatively long and lingers with notes of rye spice, honey, and nutmeg.

In closing

What started as an experiment has made its way to becoming full-time expression for Chattanooga Distillery, and for good reason. Chattanooga Whiskey Tennessee Rye Malt is a wonderful balance of sweetness and spice that’s dangerously drinkable. At 99 proof, this whiskey has a very enjoyable nose, palate, and finish that is more than worthy of being sipped neat. This whiskey is a great value at $40 bucks and will likely be turning some heads!
