Blade and Bow is distilled by the Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company located in Louisville, Kentucky, and is a blend of bourbons created using the Solera aging process with “other straight bourbons” rumored to be older stock from the Stitzel Weller Distillery before it closed in 1992. The product is nonage stated, has an undisclosed mash bill, and has a retail price of around $50.
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn Glass)
Color
Golden Yellow
Nose
The nose is light with notes of pear and apricot. This is also a floral aspect to go along with some citrus notes.
Palate
On the palate, I get vanilla, flowers, pear, and a little bit of astringency.
Finish
The finish is short, but the astringency from the palate lasts a little longer than I would like it to. The vanilla and pear from the palate also come through.
In closing
Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a very basic whiskey with a few good notes; however, the astringency on the palate and finish is a big turn off for me. Overall this pour is not for me, but I could see someone who really enjoys floral and astringency appreciating this bourbon.
