Sourcing whiskey has been a source of contention within the whiskey world over the last few years with some people refusing to drink a product that isn’t distilled in house by whoever releases it. I on the other hand simply enjoy good whiskey wherever it comes from, especially if it comes from MGP in Lawrenceburg IN. This release of Huling Station Bourbon from Old Dominick in Memphis TN comes in at 100 Proof and a $35 price tag.
(Tasted neat from a Glencairn.)
Color
Dark Gold
Nose
Caramel, toffee, leather, and cigar box. Brings me back to the good old days of the discontinued Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7 year just sitting on store shelves.
Palate
Stewed cherry on the front with vanilla and caramel coating the entire mouth.
Finish
A little on the short side but it’s all dark chocolate, furniture polish (in a good way), and cherry pipe tobacco.
In closing
Great whiskey is great whiskey regardless of where it comes from and this is great whiskey. Huling Station Bourbon packs a lot of classic flavors from beginning to end and for the price is one of the best values in bourbon right now. This is a bottle that I will be on the lookout for as a daily drinker and I’d recommend others do the same.
