A little background
Barton 1792 Distillery pays homage to the year the Commonwealth of Kentucky joined the Union and the year Kentucky distilling was still in its infancy. Sweet Wheat Bourbon was the first of the limited release expressions from Barton 1792. A press release from Barton 1792 stated that by having a higher wheat content they hoped to create a softer bourbon compared to their typical rye expressions. The MSRP is around $35.

Nose
Aromas of sweet malt hits the nose first. Followed up by vanilla and hints of caramel. Letting the bourbon open up a bit was beneficial to identify the more subtle notes.
Palate
Sweetened wheat is one of the first distinguishable flavor notes. That sweet wheat note is quickly replaced with warm caramel, vanilla, and dried apricots. Slight notes of citrus became more noticeable the longer the bourbon sat in the glass. The flavor profile of this bourbon became more apparent as the whiskey opened up in the glass for a few minutes. The palate maintained a creamy mouthfeel.
Finish
The finish is relatively short but the creamy texture is still managed through the finish. The sweetness of the bourbon really shines through on both the finish and aftertaste. Note: adding a few drops of water did make the finish even shorter but the creamy texture remained.
In conclusion
If you are a fan of bourbon with a higher wheat content, this is a great option for you. The creamy texture that 1792 was able to create in their sweet wheat is unlike any other wheated bourbon I have had. The overall flavor profile is not very complex but it is a well balanced bourbon. The aromas from the nose match the notes found in the palate. Letting the bourbon sit and breathe for a few minutes, enhanced the overall experience of both the nose and palate. If you are lucky enough to come across a bottle or two, I highly recommend you purchasing it.
