10th Street American Whiskey Single Malt STR 100% American Malt

A little background

10th Street was created by a group of engineers who are passionate about continuously improving things. Intrigued by the old ways of making Single Malts and the traditions of American whiskey, this group of engineers set out to create a new way of making whiskey. According to the 10th Street website, they are working on creating a more precise and accurate way of distilling whiskey. 10th Street American STR Single Malt whisky is non-peated and created using domestic 2-row malted barley that’s been double distilled in all-copper pot stills and bottled without chill-filtration. This whisky is matured in casks that have been shaved, toasted, and re-charred, hence the name, STR. 10th Street American Whiskey Single Malt STR is bottled at is 90 proof and carries an MSRP is $60 USD.

Light Honey

Nose

The nose makes you revisit it a few times before you really understand what you are smelling. The first note that comes through is a warm but spicey grain note. There are notes of caramel and traditional grains come in as it opens up.

Palate

The palate was surprisingly refreshing. There are notes of vanilla, crisp citrus, clove, and sandalwood.

Finish

While this is not a traditional scotch, the finish reminds me of that classic malty finish. The overall finish is medium length.

In closing

Overall, this was quite a unique whisky experience. The flavors on the palate were light and refreshing, accompanied by an enjoyable mouthfeel and pleasantly long finish. For those looking to dip their toes into the malty world of Single Malts, this would be a great option for you.
